Just yesterday we learned that Mercy Health and Bon Secours Healthy System is planning to merge to form a 43-hospital entity that serves the follow states: Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina, Kentucky, Ohio, Florida and New York.

Executives of the Catholic health systems said the merger would create the fifth-largest Catholic health system in the country with a total net operating revenue of $8 billion and operating income of $293 million...can we say powerhouse?! This merger could leverage economies of scale to deliver better, more affordable care.
