Anthem announced Friday, July 24th, 2015 that negotiations with Cigna had been finalized and Cigna would be acquired for $54.2 billion in the largest health insurer transaction to date.  The combined companies will insure 53 million people, and annual revenues are projected at $115 billion.  The purchase is being made with a combination of $188 per share stock and cash.  Both companies have committed to overcoming all of the challenges through the merging process and hope to lower healthcare costs by using their greater negotiating power.
