Mercy Health and Bon Secours to merge

Just yesterday we learned that Mercy Health and Bon Secours Healthy System is planning to merge to form a 43-hospital entity that serves the follow states: Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina, Kentucky, Ohio, Florida and New York.

Executives of the Catholic health systems said the merger would create the fifth-largest Catholic health system in the country with a total net operating revenue of $8 billion and operating income of $293 million…can we say powerhouse?! This merger could leverage economies of scale to deliver better, more affordable care. “This merger strengthens our shared commitment to improve population health, eliminate health disparities, build strength to address social determinants of health, and invest heavily in innovating our approaches to health care”, Bon Secours CEO Richard Statuto said in a statement.
